Okay, first let’s deal with what the German conditional tense means. It\u2019s one of the more specialised tenses as it deals with a specific situation. This situation is something that would happen<\/strong> or would be true<\/strong> under certain conditions.<\/p>\n

When is the German conditional tense used?<\/h3>\n

It’s quite easy to identify when to use the conditional tense. In English it is identifiable by the word would<\/strong> or an abbreviation e.g. we’d<\/strong> (we would).<\/p>\n

How to form the German conditional tense?<\/h3>\n

The conditional tense is formed in two parts.<\/p>\n

  • The first part is the w\u00fcrde<\/span><\/strong> form of the verb werden<\/strong>. You may see this referred to as the subjunctive<\/strong> but it\u2018s easier to remember w\u00fcrde.<\/li>\n
  • The second part is the infinitive<\/span><\/strong> form of the verb which is usually placed at the end of the sentence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
