If you&#8217;ve never been to the Oktoberfest you should definitely continue reading. Our blog will give you some tips on where to stay, what to wear and what to do &#8211; apart from drinking beer of course \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #faaf0f;\">Where is it?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>It takes place in Munich, a city in south Germany. The area is called <strong>Theresienwiese<\/strong> (field or meadow of Therese) or \u201cWiesn\u201d as the Germans like to call it.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #faaf0f;\">When is it?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The name Oktoberfest is actually a bit misleading, as the fair starts at the end of September and finishes around the first weekend in October. <\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #faaf0f;\">What to wear?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>You can wear whatever you like, but many Germans prefer to wear their <strong>Trachten<\/strong> (traditional clothing). That means <strong>Lederhosen<\/strong> (leather trousers) for the men and <strong>Dirndl<\/strong> (dirndl dress) for the women. <\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #faaf0f;\">What to drink?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>That one is easy to answer \u2013 beer! 7 million litres of beer are consumed over a span of 16 days. Beers are traditionally served in a <strong>Ma\u00df<\/strong>. This glass holds an entire litre of beer. Augustiner-Br\u00e4u, Hacker-Pschorr-Br\u00e4u, L\u00f6wenbr\u00e4u, Paulaner-Br\u00e4u, Spatenbr\u00e4u, Staatliches Hofbr\u00e4u-M\u00fcnchen are the most common and popular beers. But don\u2019t worry, if you\u2019re underage, pregnant or just don\u2019t fancy beer you can always opt for soft drinks.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #faaf0f;\">What to eat?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>You are definitely not going to starve at the Oktoberfest. The range of different foods and snacks is enormous:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hendl (chicken)<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Schweinebraten (roast pork)<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Wei\u00dfwurst (a white sausage served with sweet mustard)<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Schweinshaxe (grilled ham hock)<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Steckerlfisch (grilled fish on a stick)<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>W\u00fcrstl (little sausages served with pretzels)<\/li>\n<p><\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nAnd for the Veggies:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jabbalab.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Kaesespaetzle.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jabbalab.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Kaesespaetzle.jpg\" alt=\"Kaesespaetzle\" width=\"225\" height=\"175\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-15198\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>K\u00e4sesp\u00e4tzle (cheese noodles)<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Lebkuchen-Herzen (gingerbread hearts, usually with a message on it)<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Kn\u00f6del (potato\/bread dumplings)<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Reiberdatschi (potato pancakes)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #faaf0f;\">What else can you do?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Well, if you don\u2019t fancy getting drunk in one of the many beer tents you can always go for a stroll and discover all the different rides and roller coasters the Oktoberfest has to offer. You can also listen to bands and traditional Bavarian music.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #faaf0f;\">How much is it to get in?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>That\u2019s the best thing \u2013 it\u2019s free. But don\u2019t get too excited. You will probably spend all your money on beer and sausage instead \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #faaf0f;\">A bit of history<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>It all started on October 12th, 1810 when Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese. They invited the citizens of Munich to celebrate with them on the fields in front of the city gates. Later, the name of the field was changed to Theresienwiese in honour of the Princess. They decided to have a horse race to mark this special occasion. The royal family and the citizens of Munich had such a great time that they decided to make this an annual event. This year the festival is going to celebrate its 180th anniversary.<br \/>\nOf course, there were a few occasions when the Oktoberfest had to be cancelled, such as the First &#038; Second World War and the inflation in the early 1920\u2019s.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #faaf0f;\">Where to stay?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There are hundreds of hotels and hostels in Munich. The choice is yours. Just be sure to book in advance, as most of them will be booked up pretty early.<br \/>\nThe Oktoberfest is in the heart of Munich so you won\u2019t have any problems getting there.
